Teledermatology is the delivery of dermatologic health care to remote locations by means of telecommunications and information technology. It facilitates delivery of services by a dermatologist at a different time and place than the patient who receives them. Both real-time videoconferences and store-and-forward systems have proven to be highly reliable and accurate in teledermatologic diagnosis compared to traditional face-to-face diagnosis.

Generalized lichen planus...what should be the treatment strategy?

Oral Lichen planus. The patient had extensive areas of skin, mucosa and nails involved. An increasing number of generalized LP cases is being reported. I usually ask for anti HCV, but it turns out to be positive in only a few cases. What would be the preferred treatment option for such florid cases? View Images

Dr.Jose Catacora from Lima Peru respoded,
For skin and nail lichen planus acitretin can be a good choice. Even prterigion ungium can improve. I have not found association with
hepatitis C virus infection. Erosive oral lichen planus is unusual in my practice
and I do not have much experience. Regards. José Catacora

Dear Shahbaz,
As in most inflammatory skin diseases oral steroids work best and quickly.I suspect the new monoclonals will have a significant effect on the really bad cases of generalised lichen planus especially those with oral and other mucosal involvement.
Best wishes
